How we stand, sit, walk is very much related to how we meet the ground.
As humans on earth, our lives are very much impacted by the very presence of gravity. Gravity actually shape our anatomy, strength, bone density, musculoskeletal systems, and many other bodily function.
Did you know that it’s probably imposible to carry a pregnancy to term if we were to live in the moon (or any other planet) simply because their different gravity would alter the body structure, and how pregnancy itself could be carried out.
Now, back to how gravity impact our posture. Well it’s pretty much Newton’s Third Law: For every action, there is an equal and oppositre reaction. So how we meet gravity is how well we can hold up our posture when we move.
Now generally, our left and right side behaves differently. And generally, we have one side of our foot that is more grounded than the other. And generally, again, the side of the foot that is less grounded might be the side where you have problems on your hips/ lower back, etc.
Question is, how do we ground ourselves better? How do we teach the body (or that specific side) to meed the ground so that we can start to balance the compressions that cause all that body problem.
It’s actually not a forcing or a pushing of the ground. But rather is a relaxing so we can meet the ground. Keep in mind that relaxing is not the same as collapsing.
It’s like a softening, so that we may receive the force upwards to the superior part of the body. In Hañsa it’s often termed as a certain sense of absorption. I personally like the term melting as well.
But try it yourself, can you sense which foot has less connection to the ground? Can you allow that side to soften and actually meet the force of gravity?
And finally, can you sense the opposite force that travels up and brings a certain elevation to the same side of the body, that hopefully brings some relief to some of the compressions.
Let me know what you experienced :)
